The Hair Academy of South Africa

About the founder

A word from the pricipal

It is said that hairdressers are the happiest workers. The sincere appreciation is extended by satisfied clients which makes this rewarding career so fulfilling.

I am fortunate to say that I have been in this profession for more than 22 years.

My journey started when I bought a hair salon at the age of 27, not having any training or experience in the world of hairdressing. The idea was to manage the business, while others are doing the work. “How difficult could it be?”

With a shock I soon realised that the only way to manage this business succesfully was to obtain a hairdressing qualification, and the only way to survive was to become the best.

After completing my trade test with the Department of Manpower in 1989, I qualified as a hairdresser and obtained my practicing licence from The Industrial Council for the Hairdressing Trade.

My hunger for knowledge and the will to become one of the best drove me to obtain my Master Diploma – the highest qualification in this profession, in 1990. Soon 11 other diplomas followed: Loreal Perming Essentials and Fachion Focus; Schwarzkopf Avant Garde colouring; Bronse, Silver & Gold perm; Bronse, Silver & Gold colour; Schwarzkopf Up-styles; Advanced cutting; Schwarzkopf Avant Garde cutting; Schwarkopf Colouring & Perming; Fashion Hair Designing; Wella Trent Vision as well as a Diploma in Nail Technology.

This knowledge together with practical experience in the field enabled me to provide the best service to my clients. I was the owner of this succesfull business for 15 years, after which I sold it to pursue new challenges.

As a single mother with two sons – on their way to university, I went to explore the world. I landed my first job abroad as a hairdresser on a luxury cruise liner, and after one contract, I became the cruise liner’s spa manager. This was a life changing experience which made it financially possible to see my two sons through university.

This profession had opened so many doors in my life and equipped me with the know how to truly realise my dream… Personally experiencing the varying degrees in quality of work by hairdressers and realising that the building blocks that lead to professionalism begin with a steadfast foundation; The basics of hairdressing. I always aspired to open an exclusive hairdressing school: Providing education and training to future hairdressers through my experience and knowledge, equipping them with markateble skills.

I settled in Potchefstroom and achieved my Assessor and Moderator Qualification, now a registered member with SETA. I strived to open an exclusive hairdressing academy. The Hair Academy of South Africa is the result of my life journey. I am pleased to say that I have reached my destination!
